To accommodate the East Link light rail line and new development in the Bel-Red area along this corridor, 124th Avenue will be widened between Northeast Spring Boulevard (formerly Northeast 14th Street) and Northup Way. This project will be designed to coordinate with Sound Transit's East Link project and schedule, which calls for the East Link guide-way to cross below 124th Avenue. As a result, the roadway will be raised between Northeast Spring Boulevard and Northeast 18th Street and re-graded between Northeast 18th Street and Northup Way.
Some of the major improvements include: a five-lane roadway, sidewalk or multipurpose pathway, landscape planters, retaining walls, traffic signals, street lighting, and other urban design elements, consistent with the city’s overall Bel-Red area plan. This project will also address the connection of open-space trails along the West Tributary and ensure forward compatibility with future private development and other regional projects in the area.
The design for 124th Avenue Northeast between Northeast Spring Boulevard and Northeast 18th Street is anticipated to be completed in 2016. It will complete design and coordinate construction with Sound Transit's East Link light rail project.
The design for 124th Avenue Northeast between Northeast 18th Street and Northup Way is on hold at 90% design.
